Why should translations be language edited? Is it not obvious that a translation should be faultless?

We recommend that all texts that are to be published be language-edited. This is not unusual since articles and books written by professional writers (in their own language) are also language-edited. This is even more important for translated texts, since a translator might be too literal with the original text. Editing by a neutral reader is therefore highly recommended, since this will ensure that the translated text is clear and appropriate.

Are translations language-edited by a native speaker?

Not just any native speaker is able to language-edit texts. This would, for example, mean that it is enough if a Slovene text is edited by anybody whose mother tongue is Slovene. Naturally, this is not so; a good language editor must be an experienced professional, who masters the Slovene language, with a sound comprehension of texts, a sound basis of knowledge and significant experience in language-editing.
Therefore, language editing is recommended for each translated text, and especially in the case of texts that are to be published.

Language editing of texts intended for publishing also includes proof-reading. As a rule, texts are proof-read once they have been completely finished, including technical design, print preparation and printing itself, corrections are made on paper, including minor errors that have ‘escaped’ during language-editing and potential errors made during technical design (part of text might be missing, address etc.). Proof-reading is included in the price but all discounts are excluded.
• Language-editing is charged by the number of standard pages in the target language; one page is 1,500 characters without spaces.
• The minimum charge unit is half a page.
• Translation and editing of shorter advertisements is charged at twice the price for the translation/editing of a text. Slogan translation and editing is charged at the price of translation/editing of one page of text.
